Composting!

We decided over the winter to start composting our yard and kitchen waste.  We'd been just dumping it all behind the electrical box in our backyard!  We finally broke down and purchased a composting bin after research several options, including building our own.  We like the look of this one and it meets our needs for now.

We got a Thermoquick Profi 410. It was easy to put together, doesn't take up much space, has nice doors at the bottom to harvest the compost (so that you can continue to put in new waste at the top), and looks nice.  Lil-S and Lil-M are putting some yard waste from our palm grass plant into the composter.

That's a fine looking composter! It's amazing how you start reframing everything in your life once you really start trying to get a thermophilic, scientific pile going. The winds have been blowing in from the dairy farms the last few days, and instead of smelling cow poo- I'm smelling excellent nitrogen, baby! My wife has gotten so used to it, she no longer even rolls her eyes.

I love what you're doing. I like the water droplet analogy, but I'm also reminded of the growth of a movement as told in the song "Alice's Restaurant." Good luck this spring!

Thanks, Dave. It is amazing how quickly we can become obsessed with this stuff! Composting is a lot of fun so far and the new composter definitely makes it look a lot better...!
